Residual Pressure Drops Below Minimum

Repeat the Residual Pressure Test with the Valve Lever Closed

  • Minimum readings should be:
    • 1976-1980 (Some early 1980 models)
      • 1.8 bar after 10 minutes
      • 1.6 bar after 20 minutes
    • 1980 and later (with 3 bar accumulator #431133441C)
      • 2.6 bar after 10 minutes
      • 2.4 bar after 20 minutes

Minimum residual pressure will only be obtained if system pressure is well within specifications
If residual pressure drops below minimum specifications with valve lever closed – See step 2 next page.

CIS.031If the residual pressure does not drop below minimum specifications with the valve lever closed:

  • Cars with old style mixture control unit
    • REPLACE control pressure regulator.
  • New Style
    • Recheck residual pressure.
    • If OK return to page 27.
  • Cars with new style mixture control unit
    • REPLACE the pressure regulating valve assembly (arrow).
    • Recheck residual pressure.
    • If OK return to page 27.

CIS.032

If residual pressure drops below minimum specifications with valve lever closed:

Pressure Regulating Valve

Old Style:

  • Remove the pressure regulating valve
  • Inspect O-ring for damage
  • REPLACE O-ring if damaged

New Style:

  • Remove the pressure regulating valve
  • Inspect O-ring for damage
  • REPLACE pressure regulating valve assembly if damaged

NOTE: If pressure regulating valve assembly is replaced check/adjust system pressure

Fuel Pump Check Valve

  • Run the engine for one minute
  • Stop engine and immediately pinch shut the hose between the fuel pump and fuel tank
  • If the pressure does not drop below specifications:
  • REPLACE check valve.

CIS.033

Cold Start Valve

  • Operate engine briefly to build up fuel pressure
  • Remove cold start valve from intake manifold
  • REPLACE cold start valve if leaks are found at nozzle

Frequency Valve

  • Operate engine briefly to build pressure
  • Remove fuel return line from frequency valve
  • Drain fuel out of return line
  • REPLACE frequency valve if fuel still leaks from valve

Fuel Accumulator

  • Run engine for at least a minute
  • Remove the screw from the end of the accumulator
  • Insert a piece of wire into the end and measure the depth with the engine running.
  • REPLACE accumulator if depth is greater than 92mm.
  • Recheck residual pressure.
  • If OK return to page 27.
